  • Best time to be in Melbourne

Melbourne’s a great city to travel all year around. However, if you prefer a less crowded, pretty good weather; April, May and September to November would be the ideal times to travel.

Summer is between December – March, where its scotching hot, make sure you stay hydrated and a good layer of sunscreen. There are many summer events taking place, such as Australian open, music festivals and more.

Winter is pretty quiet and cold, you won’t be freezing to death, but it’s a nice cold between June to August, and rates are comparatively low.

  • Getting around Melbourne

MYKI your best friend, for trains, trams and busses. Top it up, and you are good to go. Don’t forget the free tram zone from Queen Victoria Market to Docklands, Spring Street, Flinders Street Station and Federation Square

  • Food. Food

The food scene here is the best! So make sure you make activity plans around food and have a taste of the foodies paradise!

Day 1 : CBD

Explore the heart of the city; laneways and arcades. Head over to Flinders Street station, the oldest railway station in Australia and a spectacular building.

 Then get to Federation square, striking with beautiful and modern buildings and there’s always something happening here. The Ian Potter center, ACMI are must visits here.

For that perfect Instagram shot, you gotta make it at Hosier Lane, just a short walk away from Flinders Street, the most known street art collection. Colourful, edgy and ever changing graffities and murals are such a hip and happening vibe, the sophisticated urban art.

For a quick munch stop, get to Flinders Lane. Well, its never a trouble finding some good food places in Melbourne, but Flinders got a special spot.

Let’s get some quick shopping now, shall we? Bourke St Mall. This pedestrian area is the go-to for shopping in Melbourne and is home to long-standing department stores and modern brands alike. Even if you’re not a shopping fan, you will definitely enjoy the old-fashioned shopping arcades like the Royal Arcade and the Block arcade.

 Queen Victoria market, a major landmark in CBD which is the largest open market in the southern hemisphere, it has everything under the sun (literally!)

Wrap up your first day with Chinatown along Little Bourke Street to get hold of some outstanding food scenes in a relaxed environment.

 Day 2: Yarra

Let’s head to the southside, As you cross either of the two modern pedestrian bridges here, Sandridge Bridge or Evan Walker Bridge, don’t forget to take a moment to admire the riverfront and the Melbourne Skyline looming large behind you.

Get to the picturesque pedestrian area runs by the beautiful Yarra river. You will be enjoying with quite a lot of bars and eateries, and leading to Crown Casino, the most popular destination for entertainment, gambling and some test-your-luck times.

Eureka Skydeck, for the most gorgeous city-gazing moment, try to get your guts to stand in “The Edge”, a glass cube extending off the side of the building with a clear view down, beneath your feet.

Then, visit the national gallery of Victoria, the oldest and the most spectacular art gallery in Australia. It showcases Australian art from Indigenous era to contemporary works. The NGV also boasts a prominent collection of Asian art, as well as some fantastic international pieces.

Just Across the road is  Kings Domain Park, where you will come across the Shrine of Remembrance, the monumental war memorial honoring soldiers who fought and died in WWI, with fantastic city views from its terrace. The other spot to visit in the park is the Royal Botanic Gardens, full of diverse plant life and an all round tranquil atmosphere. Oh, what a perfect to relax.

MVM tip: best way to see the beauty of Yarra, is definitely through the sundown cruise. Travel down the Yarra River to see sights such as the Docklands Crown Entertainment Complex and Government House. Perfect way to wine down day 2.

 Day 3 : You-Beach!

South Melbourne Foreshore, the nearest beach from the city center. This beach will surely soothe your need for sun, sand and tan. Make sure to around where the lifeguards are available and follow the flags.

St. Klida is the best beach spot in South Melbourne, and the most popular among the locals and tourists. The area is lined with walking paths, recreation spots, and good eateries. Also, one of the best places to capture a moment.

Don’t forget the iconic Brighton Bathing Boxes, colorful beach side huts which date back to the turn of the century. This collection of 82 bathing boxes in a row is a fun, playful and bright scenery with photo enthusiasts.

The next best thing in St. Klida is the Luna Park, an amusement park. Stepping through “Mr. Moon” face, the amusement is surely for the whole family. Luna Park has a whole range of rides, from the timeless Scenic Railway roller coaster to the Pharaoh’s Curse and Twin Dragon.

Day 4: Inner suburbs

  • Fitzroy

The epitome of hipster culture in the city, which is filled with so much energy and character, it is a perfect place to hangout and explore. Whatever you crave for, you get served here with the endless number of cafes and restaurants and bar scenes here.

  • Carlton

Known for a more of traditional spectrum of the city. Its Italian community is the biggest fame. The amount of italain restaurants and cafés with the best best best coffee (Ever!) perfect way to chill and sip a flat white. stroll over in the Carlton Gardens, admire the Royal Exhibition Building, and visit the Melbourne Museum.

  • Prahran

The chic and modern suburb with plenty to enjoy. Chapel Street, the most popular shopping area in all of Melbourne. While Chapel St stretches into other neighborhoods to the south, there are  plenty of boutiques and fashion labels as you head along. To regain your energy from shopping, head into the Prahran Market where grocers and delis sit side-by-side with an international array of cafes. Prahran is also good for a night out with trendy bars and clubs.

 Day 5: Healesville Sanctuary

Wildlife is always in the bucket list, this sanctuary is in Melbourne’s outer north-east, a trip to Healesville Sanctuary is definitely a day well spent. the purpose of this sanctuary is to protect and showcase animals native to Australia. You can catch a glimpse of  kangaroos, wombats, emus, dingoes, plus a great array of bird life, reptiles, and amphibians. Their platypus program is one of the only two places in the world that has successfully bred platypus in captivity can be seen at the track and platyrus creek show.

Best thing here is that you get to interact and get up close and personal. You can feed the kangaroos. (How cool is that?)

Day 6-7: Great ocean road

This is an absolute must do in your itinerary! Its one of the most iconic destinations in Australia. Its best to do an overnight trip simply because there are so many places to see.

Driving through Geelong, and head to the world famous Bell’s beach surfing spot, get a lesson or two and learn a new skill.

The landmark of this trip is the Twelve Apostles - natural wonder of Victoria's most famous rock formation.  However, don’t expect to see twelve stacks sitting by the beaches and cliffs here.

If you are hike enthusiast, and can space a week - The Great Ocean Walk has been named as one of the best hikes in the world. it s a once in a lifetime experience you can’t miss.
